Kerry Miller, M.D.
Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine Penn State University
Why did you choose to become a rheumatologist?
Rheumatology combines my academic interest of immunology with the practical applications of patient care.
What is your style of working with patients?
I work one on one with each patient at each visit. I do not ask physician assistants, nurse practitioners or residents in the office to care for my patients. My focus is solely patient care, and the patient and I work as a team in all decision-making.
What is the most challenging part of taking care of patients?
Improving the patient's condition while minimizing risks and costs of treatment.
What is the most enjoyable part of your day?
Talking with my patients.
What do you want people to know about you?
I listen to what my patients say. I treat every patient as a person and not just a patient.
How has providing patient care changed since you've been practicing?
Today we can offer our patients many innovative therapies, including biologic agents.
What do you do in your spare time?
I enjoy Penn State activities and boating.
